Welcome to SHUTTERART By Debi where you can enjoy beauty through photography. Experience nature’s unspoiled glory as well as look at local points of interest.

Born in East Haven, Connecticut, I have raised my family, and what had started as merely a hobby, has turned into a passion. My inspiration began with my love of gardening. I would watch my flowers blossom and witness the splendor of the butterflies which would come to grace my garden.

With the support and encouragement of my friends and family, I began matting and framing my photos. These photos were sold under the name of SHUTTERART By Debi at a local church flea market and then the East Haven Farmer’s Market. At the Farmer’s Market I was approached by a Connecticut State Representative, Michael Lawlor who complimented my work and suggested that I contact the East Haven Arts Commission which was in it’s forming stage. The East Haven Arts Commission held it’s First Annual Fine Arts Exhibit near the Town Beach. I was invited to participate and was given a name tag which said “Debra Meole, Artist”.

Several years ago, I attended an adult education class on photo composition at the Branford High School. During the month of August, 2010, I attended an evening class at The Guilford Art Center, 411 Church Street, Guilford, Connecticut. The class was called Beyond The Eye - Advanced Camera Practice. I was inspired by my instructor, Matthew Kabel to experiment with the settings on my digital SLR Nikon and to reach beyond what I thought I could do. He also encouraged all of his students to enter our photographs into the Durham Fair for which I received a first place ribbon for a butterfly photo.

With art always my favorite subject while in school, I could not always express myself as I wanted to until now. I have discovered just how fulfilling not only taking the photographs can be, but also cropping and retouching each one to bring out the best in them.

Through the lens of my Nikon, I can see the beauty of a swan leading her young, raindrops on a rose petal and the colorful magic of a carousel horse. Now I want to share the beauty with those who appreciate a piece of art which started as a simple snapshot.
